In 1265 Czech King Přemysl Otakar II chose the junction of the rivers Vltava and Malše for the founding of České Budějovice. The regular ground plan of the newly founded regal town, whose centre is a large square, is among the peaks of medieval urbanism in Bohemia. České Budějovice is a historical city. The majority of historical sights are in the vicinity of the hotel, for example the Dominican Monastery with its tower, Přemysl Otakar II Square, the Fountain of Samson, the Black Tower (Černá věž), the Rabenstein Tower, the fortification tower Železná panna (Iron Maiden) and many others. There is also an indoor swimming pool, sport centre and stadium near the hotel. The city is currently becoming a centre of culture. A cycle path runs in front of the hotel along the rivers Vltava and Malše all the way to the castle in Hluboká nad Vltavou, to the Celtic oppidum in Třísov or to Kleť - the highest mountain in the Blanský les. The famous monastery in Zlatá Koruna is only 12 km away from České Budějovice. The UNESCO protected Český Krumlov is 24 km away to the south.
